SARC5800-COMMUNITY AS CLASSROOM: URBAN STUDIES AND SERVICE LEARNING IN CAPE COAST GHANA

SUMMER 2012 - UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA . GRADUATE LEVEL. TEACHING FELLOW

This course targets advanced undergraduate and graduate students whose research interests focus on values-based planning, design and urban revitalization. Through a unique combination of traditional classroom and field learning experience, students will gain practical knowledge of developing and implementing tangible urban solutions. In this respect, the course is designed to immerse the student in the culture of Cape Coast and Ghana. Local stakeholders such as the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board, the Oguaa Traditional Council, the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly, and Ghana Heritage Conservation Trust are deeply involved in guiding these programs.
